| In 1934 | five Sisters from the mother house in Brig/Switzerland, came to the Diocese of Mthatha. These young pioneers were eager and full of enthusiasm to bring the Good news to the people of South Africa. According to the charism of Mother Anne de Xainctonge, the five missionaries devoted themselves to teaching girls and women in school, pastoral and social work. |
| In 1965 | permission was given to open a noviciate for the formation of the African Ursulines. Now we are working in four mission stations, three in the Eastern Cape and one in KwaZulu Natal where there is our novitiate at the moment. | |
| Today | our Sisters are still involved in education in school, hostel, pastoral and social work. At the moment the greatest challenge is the AIDS pandemic, where we try to offer physical and spiritual help. |
We put ourselves at their service
especially through instruction and education,
to foster their faith,
and to help them to live according to the gospel.
We do this with a preference for the poor.(Constitutions 2)
