The Motherhouse - its Special Position

The so-called "Convent" (Kloster) in Brig occupies a special position among the communities and buildings of the whole Society of St. Ursula. Because the motherhouse is the cradle of all Sisters of St. Ursula Brig.

African or Indian sisters having received their formation in their own country are happy to be welcomed at the motherhouse, the place of origin, for some time.  

As for the Swiss sisters the motherhouse is their home. This is the house where they spend the beginning and the end of their religious way. During their formation in the postulancy and noviciate they are here; and after having retired they return here. They carry out duties outside or in the household as much as they are able to, despite failing strength.
